Sourced from Cumbria and North Wales, these dry slates are pastel in appearance and come to life when wet, giving a bright shiny contemporary look. Slate is very popular in gardens, pathways and much more. As slate chippings are quite flat, they settle and compact nicely underfoot.

Our slate is a by-product of roof tile manufacture and as such is classed as a recycled material, which means it is more environmentally friendly than other quarried stones. Slate chippings are often used as a mulch on borders, between plants and gardens to eliminate weed growth and also keep moisture retained in the soil during warm spells. The natural beauty of slate chippings is perfect for uses as a mulch, driveways, paths, water features, seating and patio areas. It is supplied in plum colour in 20mm size, looks at its best when wet so is also ideal around water features, but looks great next to rusty Slate paving, Indian sandstone paving, Decking, sleepers with the fact that it is naturally formed provides the perfect finish. Ideally it should be laid on a weed suppressant material that is pegged down using mulch mat pegs to a depth of approximately 50mm, the deeper the better if being used as a mulch for frost purposes or for water retention on the garden or raised vegetable beds.
